Большой противолодочный корабль "Адмирал Пантелеев", танкер-снабженец "Борис Бутома"и спасательный буксир "Фотий Крылов" ведут в Аденском заливе проводку первого по счету конвоя, состоящего из девяти гражданских судов под различными флагами, защищая их от нападения пиратов Сомали. На протяжении ряда лет регион Африканского рога и Аденского залива особо опасен высокой активностью сомалийских пиратов.

 

Сегодняшние пираты уже не те голодные рыбаки, которые нападали на суда с гуманитарной помощью, чтобы хоть как-то прокормить себя и свою семью. Теперь они оснащены самым современным спутниковым навигационным оборудованием, системами стрелкового вооружения и связи. Масштабы современного пиратства поражают воображение. Количество нападений на суда по всему миру по итогам 2010 года выросло на 10% по сравнению с аналогичным показателем предыдущего года и составило 445 атак - это самые высокие показатели за последние годы.
