Винтовка Beretta 501 sniper была разработана на основе спортивной винтовки беретта модель 500. Ее выпуск был начат в 1985 году и прекращен в середине 1990х годов, когда итальянская армия приняла на вооружение снайперскую винтовку Accuracy International Arctic Warfare Magnum.
Винтовка Beretta 501 sniper имеет тяжелый, консольно установленный в ложе ствол, на котором установлены высокоточные регулируемые прицельные приспсобления спортивного типа. Кроме того, винтовка оснащена креплениями для оптики станадарта НАТО STANAG 2324. Рекомендованным оптическим прицелом является прицел Zeiss Diavari-Z 1.5-6X переменной кратности, однако может использоваться и любой другой прицел, имеющий стандартные крепления. Ложа винтовки выполнена из дерева и регулируется по длине приклада и высоте упора для щеки. Возможно съемных крепление сошек.
