9 октября глава BrahMos Aerospace Сиватхану Пиллаи (Sivathanu Pillai) заявил, что индийские и российские компании работают над созданием гиперзвуковой версии крылатой ракеты (КР) BrahMos, которая должна летать со скоростью, почти в 7 раз превышающей скорость звука.
"Должен быть разработан новый двигатель, а также новые материалы, которые должны выдерживать высокие температуры и вибрации, а также соответствующая бортовая электроника", - заявил Пиллаи на пресс-конференции, которая прошла в южном индийском штате Тамил Наду.
По его словам, в разработке компонентов и подсистем ракеты участвует большое количество российских и индийских компаний. В их числе Индийский научный институт (Indian Institute of Science) и Московский авиационный институт (МАИ), которые создадут критические технологии гиперзвуковой КР.
