20 октября 1696 г. по указу Петра I в России было начато создание регулярного Российского Флота.
Историк Виталий Доценко в своей статье на Rumarine.ru сообщает интересные факты об этом знаменательном событии в российской истории. Оказывается, долгое время россияне терялись в догадках: какую дату следует считать днем возникновения Российского регулярного флота? Одни полагали, что отсчет надо вести с того дня, когда Петр I в амбаре своего двоюродного деда Никиты Ивановича Романова обнаружил ботик, названный им «дедушкой русского флота». Другие утверждали, что флот появился на Плещеевом озере. Некоторые считали, что он возник в период выхода Петра I в Белое море. Однако никто не сомневался в том, что образование регулярного флота связано с именем Петра Великого.
