Первая ракета-носитель легкого класса «Вега» (Vega) доставлена в Гвианский космический центр на борту ролкера «Колибри». Переход судна из Европы во Французскую Гвиану продолжался две недели. Ракета была перегружена на трейлер в порту Парикабо и доставлена на космодром.
Запуск четырех ступенчатой РН Vega намечен на 26 января 2012 г. В космической головной части ракеты будет находиться спутник с лазерной аппаратурой LARES (LAser RElativity Satellite) и 9 кубических спутников образовательного назначения различных габаритов.
Первый полет ракеты будет квалификационным и проводится под руководством Европейского космического агентства. Компания «Арианспейс» будет оператором этой ракеты в будущем и поэтому активно участвует в подготовке запуска. Один из ее представителей является руководителем операций на стартовом комплексе.
