В ходе начавшегося официального визита в Россию премьер-министра Индии Манмохана Сингха будет подписано соглашение о поставке индийским ВВС в 2014-2018 гг. 42 модернизированных многофункциональных истребителей Су-30МКИ. Как сообщила газета «Индиан экспресс», решение о закупке этой партии боевых самолётов принял комитет по безопасности при правительстве Индии.
ВВС республики получат модернизированные «Сухие», ряд характеристик которых будет соответствовать истребителям пятого поколения. Ожидается, что при производстве этих самолётов будут применены следующие технические решения:
- использована технология «стелс»
- на самолет установят усовершенствованный бортовой радар
- у истребителей увеличат боевую нагрузку, и они смогут оснащаться воздушной версией крылатой ракеты «БраМос» индийско-российского производства.
