Автомат Калашникова АК-103 является экспортной модификацией штатного автомата Российской армии АК-74М. Главным (и фактически единственным) оличием АК-103 от АК-74М является калибр - этот автомат "сотой" серии использует патроны калибра7.62мм (7.62х39 М43) и соответствующие магазины (совместимые с магазинами более старых автоматов АК / АКМ), в остальном автоматы идентичны.
В 2006 году значительное количесвто автоматов АК-103 (100 000 штук) было закуплено в Ижевске для Вооруженных сил Венесуэлы.
