Компактные автоматы Калашникова "сотой серии" выполнены на базе полноразмерных автоматов той же серии, базирующейся на штатном автомате Российской армии АК-74М. Основными отличиями от "полноразмерных" собратьев стали укороченный ствол со специальным надульником-пламягасителем и измененная прицельная планка (имеющая разметку только до 500 метров вместо 1000 у полноразмерных образцов). Автоматы имеют складной вбок пластиковый приклад и расположенную налевой стороне ствольной коробки штатную планку для установки оптических либо ночных прицелов. Конструктивно они полностью аналогичны автомату АК-74М (за исключением указанных выше особенностей).
