Как сообщила в понедельник газета Hindu со ссылкой на военные источники, индийские сухопутные войска впервые приняли в состав строевой части женщину, которая будет служить на солдатской должности.
35-летняя Шанти Тигга (Shanti Tigga), мать двоих детей, стала первой в Индии женщиной-солдатом - ее зачислили в 969 полк железнодорожных войск Территориальной армии. До сих пор женщины служили в индийской армии только в не боевых подразделениях. Шанти Тигга разрушила эту традицию, став первой женщиной-солдатом в 1,3 миллионной индийской армии. "Очередной барьер на пути женщин, мечтающих стать военнослужащими, сломлен", - комментирует газета это сообщение.
