Подразделения Сухопутных войск радиационной, химической и биологической защиты (РХБЗ) Российской Федерации получили на вооружение огнемет «Шмель-М», использующий термобарические снаряды. В данный момент идут масштабные учения под Волгоградом, на которых бойцы осваивают новое оружие. Огнемет, способный вести прицельный огонь на расстоянии до 800 метров, предназначен для уничтожения солдат, легкобронированной техники и оборонных укреплений противника.
Термобарические снаряды, применяемые в «Шмеле-М», наиболее эффективны при попадании в замкнутое пространство, к примеру, в дзот или другое укрепление. При этом возникает резкий перепад давления и все живое в радиусе поражения погибает. Вместе с увеличенной дальностью стрельбы новый огнемет получил большую мощность и зону поражения. По сравнению с предыдущей моделью, радиус поражения увеличился почти в полтора раза. Теперь, даже в случае промаха, есть вероятность задеть противника.
