В связи с применением новой силовой установки увеличились габариты отделения силовой установки. Изменены люки в крыше отделения силовой установки и приводы управления крышками воздухо-притоков и воздухо-отводов. С новым двигателем используются новые сцепление и коробка передач. Внесены конструктивные изменения в раздаточную коробку

BTR-80M armored personnel carrier
Appointment
The BTR-80M armored personnel carrier is designed for missions standard to the BTR-80 from which it has been derived and is intended for use by motorized infantry units. The BTR-80M differs from the basic model in that it is driven by the YaMZ-238 M2-7 engine rated at 176 kW (240 hp). This engine is extremely reliable and simple in operation. To install the new engine the size of the engine compartment had to be increased.
Moreover, the following modifications were made to the vehicle hatches in the power compartment roof were redesigned; control links of air intake and air discharge covers were changed; new clutch and gearbox were installed; the transfer case was redesigned.
