10 января 2012 г. агентство «Интерфакс», ссылаясь на собственные источники в космической отрасли,обнародовало причину аварии военного спутника «Меридиан», которая произошла в декабре 2011 г. Ею стал взрыв в двигательной установке ракеты-носителя.
По данным «Интерфакса», во время работы третьей ступени было зафиксировано резкое падение давления, что фактически указывает на взрыв. Комиссия по расследованию причин аварии рассматривает и другие версии - прогар двигателя и взрыв топливного бака третьей ступени.
